Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to get certified?
The teacher training timeline can look different for everyone! There is no definitive timeline for any certification track. The amount of time it takes to get certified completely depends on how quickly a student is able to complete all the necessary hours and workshops. You can complete your coursework and get your hours as quickly or as slowly as works for your schedule.
Can I get certified in both Mat & Reformer?
Yes, you can! Balanced Body’s Mat & Reformer certification includes:
- Movement Principles
- Balanced Body Anatomy course (or anatomy equivalent)
- All Reformer workshops (Reformer 1, Reformer 2, Reformer 3)
- All Mat workshops (Mat 1, Mat 2, Mat 3)
- 20 Mat personal sessions, 30 Reformer personal sessions, 45 observation hours, and 125 student teaching hours
- Final written and practical test
Can I get all of the workshops I need for my certification at Body Awareness?
Yes, Body Awareness Studio offers every Balanced Body Education workshop that is required in any of the four certifications (Mat, Reformer, Mat & Reformer, Comprehensive). Students are able to complete all coursework at Body Awareness Studio.
What if I want to attend a workshop that I don’t see on the schedule?
If you don’t see a workshop you need on the schedule, don’t worry! We often add additional workshops based on demand. Additionally, the Balanced Body Education curriculum is consistent throughout all authorized training centers. If you can’t take a workshop with us, check here to see availability at a different studio.
How much do the workshops cost?
Workshop costs can vary, but the total cost of any Balanced Body Education workshop at Body Awareness includes the workshop itself, as well as a manual and streaming access to the accompanying video content. Check the price of any workshop by clicking “Register” for the workshop of your choice on our Teacher Training Schedule. Secure the early bird rate (save $50) at Body Awareness by signing up for your workshop two or more weeks in advance.
How do I get my required hours?
Students are always welcome to work toward their observation, personal practice, and student teaching requirements at Body Awareness Studio! However, if you are out-of-state or have a studio that you already teach or practice at, you are more than welcome to complete any and all hours at the studio of your choice. Hours are tracked via the honor system, so be sure to keep track of your hours as you complete them (but no official submission is required until applying for test-out).
Do Balanced Body Education workshops that I take at a studio other than Body Awareness still count toward my certification?
Yes, they do! The Balanced Body Education curriculum is consistent across all Balanced Body Authorized Training Centers. For example, if a student takes Mat 1 at Body Awareness and Mat 2 at a different authorized training center, that Mat 2 workshop will still count toward their coursework requirement for whichever certification track they choose.
Do I have to take the workshops in a particular order?
Balanced Body’s Movement Principles course is a pre-requisite for most other Balanced Body workshops, and we recommend taking this course before any others. Some workshops, such as Mat and Reformer, include levels 1 through 3, which must be taken in numerical order, starting with level 1. The Trapeze Table/Cadillac/Tower training must be taken after completing Mat and Reformer levels 1 and 2. Other than these stipulations, students are free to take workshops in the order that best fits their schedule.
Do I have to complete all the Mat workshops before I take Reformer?
Nope! Students are free to complete the Mat and Reformer workshops in whichever order they please, so long as they are taken in numerical order. For example, a student who has completed their Mat 1 workshop could take Reformer 1 without needing to complete any additional Mat coursework.
