ONE BILLION RISING FOR JUSTICE is a global call to women survivors of violence and those who love them to gather safely in community outside places where they are entitled to justice – courthouses, police stations, government offices, school administration buildings, work places, sites of environmental injustice, military courts, embassies, places of worship, homes, or simply public gathering places where women deserve to feel safe but too often do not. It is a call to survivors to break the silence and release their stories – politically, spiritually, outrageously – through art, dance, marches, ritual, song, spoken word, testimonies and whatever way feels right.
Rising for justice is very personal and close to my heart. A survivor of sexual abuse myself, I have volunteered with the V Day organization for the past six years. Day in day out I teach Pilates to women as not only a way to get them in shape but also as a way to help them find their inner strength, self-confidence, focus and energy. One might ask why I am rising and the answer is very simple: I am rising because I believe every woman and girl deserves their God given birth right to live in this world, on this planet as an equal part of the Human race with full ownership of their body and the freedom to educate their mind while expressing their creativity.
Join me, my family and friends and rise up for women who have suffered from sexual abuse, sexual slavery, human trafficking and female genocide. You can rise from anywhere in the world. Even your living room. If you are in Atlanta, visit One Billion Rising Atlanta and sign up to be counted as someone who cares and stands for human rights. To participate in person, here’s all the information you need:
